Rockwood Manor was built in the 1920's as the country estate of Carolyn Caughey. The estate was named after the cedar, poplar, and oak trees that covered the rock studded hills.
Upon her death Carolyn Caughey left the 93-acre estate to the Girl Scouts to be used as a character building center for young women. From 1939 to 1979 Rockwood was the site of the Girl Scout National Center and the cabins on the property hosted 15,000 - 20,000 Girl Scouts each year, as they came to visit Washington.
In 1981 the estate was transferred to the Maryland-National Capital Parks & Planning Commission for use as a public park and the future site of Allison and Cortney's wedding.
